Who runs the world? GIRLS. Queen Bey isn’t the only diva that holds this motto as her own personal mantra. As part of her partnership with L’Oréal Paris’s Women of Worth initiative, songstress Lea Michele is now also belting out the aphorism of girl power.

The Women of Worth program celebrates extraordinary women who are doing big things in the world. And to honor the ninth year of the WOW project, Michele is participating in Twitter’s first-ever #WomenofWorth forum alongside Maria Shriver and Eva Longoria to discuss thoughts of self-worth and to gather nominations for this year’s WOW honorees.

We chatted with the Glee star about the campaign, and also got her take on whether a woman can truly have it all, [...]

“Louder” Review: “Teens should relate to Michele’s album”

As teenagers, new singers and musicians enter our lives frequently, altering our choice of music more often than not. Lea Michele is one of those singers whose songs I think we can all relate. Her songs express heartbreak, relationships and standing up for yourself. Michele’s debut album, “Louder,” showcases not just what people go through in life but also what teens go through on a high school level.

This pop album made its debut at No. 1 on the iTunes charts on March 3. Each song on this album has very distinct differences in the instrumentals, which can really appeal to the listener. I think it is better to have a mixture of slow songs and fast-paced songs with a different [...]

Lea Michele Interview

The “no personal questions” directive was expected. It would be impossible for Glee star Lea Michele to make it through hundreds of interviews about her debut pop record Louder if she had to talk about the death of her boyfriend Cory Monteith in every single one of them.

Then a request is made not to question her about the album’s closing track If You Say So.

The day before, Michele abruptly stopped a phone interview with a New Zealand radio station when told her fans were moved to empathetic tears every time they broadcast the song.

If You Say So were the last words Monteith said to her before he died of a drug overdose and the song’s lyrics are a harrowing narrative [...]

Lea Michele’s Album ‘Louder’ Debuts in Top 5, So Yep, She’s Not Going Anywhere

When she first announced she’d be coming out with her own solo album back in 2012, no one had expected Lea Michele’s album to debut at number 4 on the Billboard 200. People were almost immediately skeptical. Sure, Michele has an out of this world voice, but often times voices that spectacular, Broadway voices to be more exact, tend not to translate to the pop charts. It’s a strange and often frustrating phenomenon, but the kids prefer the monotonous moans of Ke$ha (or is it dollar sign-less these days?) over emotionally gripping power ballads. Kids these days.

If one thing was certain though, the 5’3” songstress had long proved to critics that she could at least master other people’s pop songs. [...]

You started on Broadway at 8 years old, from there it seems like it’s been a rocketship ride to the moon. Does it feel that way for you?

It sort of seems like I’ve lived nine lives in such a short period of time. I feel like that even though I started very early at a young age, I really had such a fun childhood. And I had such a great high school experience. I think that my family really managed to give me the best of both worlds.

It must have been an amazing environment in many ways, you have had the kind of childhood that many would love to have had!

It was really exciting and such an amazing experience being [...]

Lea Michele: ‘Don’t Strive for Fame’

Lea Michele doesn’t think people should “strive for fame” and instead concentrate on something they are passionate about.

Michele - who recently released her first solo album ‘Louder’ – thinks too many young people aspire to be a star rather than looking to do something they are really passionate about.

She told Bliss magazine: “A lot of people strive for fame and don’t focus on finding something they’re passionate about.

“There becomes this idea of a system where someone is better than you because they’re famous, so you want to strive to be where they are, when the most important thing is to be the best you, and be your own personal motivator.”

Together with her Glee co-stars, Lea Michele has racked up sales of 57 million singles, and scored 20 top 40 hits.  No wonder she felt that it was finally time she got around to releasing her debut album.  It’s called Louder, and it’s in stores this week.

“Glee was a really amazing opportunity for me to sort of be exposed to the music world, as well as, you know, understand what life is like inside of a recording booth, so it just felt like the natural step for me to create my own solo record,” Lea tells ABC News Radio.

Unlike her Glee releases, Lea’s debut album Louder isn’t a collection of cover versions of pop hits or show tunes.  It’s a [...]

“I didn’t record one word I didn’t feel – whether or not I wrote it,” Lea Michele says during a recent listening session for her debut album. “These are words that are parts of me.”

“Louder,” released on Tuesday, shows the Broadway veteran and star of Fox’s hit musical, “Glee,” making a solid bid for pop stardom.

While “Louder” is packed with club-ready dance anthems and sweeping ballads, some beautifully crafted by pop expert Sia Furler, the album doesn’t sidestep the personal tragedy that changed the singer’s life.

In July, her longtime boyfriend and “Glee” co-star Cory Monteith died from a toxic mix of heroin and alcohol, sending shock waves across the legion of the cheery show’s loyal “gleeks” who watched the pair [...]

“I set out to make a really pop-heavy album that was fun and empowering – I love Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson! I look at it and think, ‘That was my year.’ I didn’t record any songs that I didn’t completely relate to.”

Find True Love

“I only have happy memories of Cory. He was not his addiction – unfortunately, it won. But that wasn’t who he was. Cory made me feel like a queen every day. From the minute he said, ‘I’m your boyfriend,’ I loved every day, and I thank [...]

This week, “Glee” star Lea Michele releases her debut album “Louder,” an 11-song set of club-ready dance anthems and soaring ballads that showcase the 27-year-old actor’s voice in a whole new light. The album delves into a slew of different ways of thinking about relationships, from good ol’ fashion pining, hooking up with someone who you know isn’t right, as well as the grief she experienced after Cory Monteith passed away last July. And it’s something she hopes will let her stand out in the pop landscape.

“I didn’t want to find songs that I had to change myself for,” she says of the tracks on “Louder.” “I wanted to find songs that would only highlight my sound and were unique [...]

The actress best known as Rachel Berry impresses on her first solo effort away from the hit Fox show

Glee might have spawned dozens of hits during its phenomenal wave of early success. But it has yet to produce a bona-fide pop star capable of transcending the show. Matthew Morrison (Mr Schuester) might have described his self-titled debut album as Timberlake-meets-Buble but its paltry sales were hardly worthy of such a billing. Naya Rivera (Santana) didn’t exactly set the world alight either with her Janet Jackson-esque first single, ‘Sorry.’ While despite releasing material before joining the cast, Darren Criss (Blaine) has been strangely reluctant to capitalise on his prime-time exposure with a new record.

Five years after first introducing her powerhouse [...]

She looks, talks, and sounds like Rachel Berry. Then, she touches on the loss of Cory Monteith and anxiety about releasing her first solo project, and it’s clear this is not a scene from a high school musical. This is Lea’s real life.

“It’s out for everyone to hear now, which is so f*cking scary,” Lea said of her biographical album, Louder, out Monday. “But I’m going for it.”

For millions of Glee fans, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele will always be the quarterback and the diva – a picture perfect TV pair. Since Monteith’s death last July from a toxic cocktail of heroin and alcohol, Michele’s fans are wondering how she’s doing.

Though she’s spoken about her grief before, Michele, 27, was able to open up through her music at a small listening party for her first album, Louder, held in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

In the days following Monteith’s passing, Michele spoke about meeting songwriter Sia Furler, who let her listen to the song “Cannonball.”

“I just literally keeled over,” Michele said. “Grief is a very scary thing, and there comes a point where it can really [...]

Get your tissues ready. Seven months after the tragic death of Glee star Cory Monteith, costar and girlfriend Lea Michele has released her emotional tribute ballad to her late partner.

“If You Say So” is named after the last words Monteith ever said to the Broadway veteran. The exchange is recounted in the song’s chorus:

“It’s been seven whole days without your embrace, I wanna see your face, I’ve got some things to say. It’s just a week ago, you said I love you girl. I said I love you more. And a breath, a pause, you said, if you say so.”

In addition to the song’s chorus, Michele includes other agonizing details from the days following the loss of her boyfriend.

Lea Michele Q&A

“No personal questions” is the caveat before getting on the phone with Lea Michele, TV’s Rachel Berry. It’s an acceptable exception given the “Glee” star’s painfully tragic last year: Her on- and off-screen boyfriend, Cory Monteith, died suddenly on July 13, 2013 from a drug overdose.

Recorded around the time of Monteith’s passing, those feelings of loss are still raw on “Louder,” Michele’s debut album. The singer dedicated “You’re Mine” to Monteith, and the crushingly beautiful “If You Say So” was inspired by his last words to her. “I can’t believe it’s true,” she laments on the latter. “I keep looking for you.”

How much of “Louder” is a reflection of your life and your own heartbreaks?

I did not sing one [...]
